FairVote celebrates the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act
Last Tuesday, members of Congress reintroduced the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. The bill aims to restore and modernize the full protections of the historic Voting Rights Act of 1965. FairVote is proud to endorse the legislation.
FairVote Senior Fellow David Daley said this about the reintroduction:
The Voting Rights Act is perhaps the most important and successful legislation in our nation’s history. It has made the right to vote a reality for millions of Americans, and helped us move ever closer to our democratic ideals. Yet this bipartisan legislation has been chipped away.
We are proud to support the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, as we did when earlier versions were proposed in 2006 and 2013. These reforms are fundamental to a future where every American’s voice counts.
