The 2025 elections using ranked choice voting

Ranked choice voting (RCV) is now used in dozens of cities, counties, and states across the U.S. In 2025 alone, 18 cities and counties are using RCV in their elections – including the most populous cities in three states. 

This post lists the cities and counties using RCV in public elections in 2025. The first table shows cities that will use RCV this November, and the second table shows cities that already used RCV this spring or summer.

In addition to the cities above, Portland, ME; Westbrook, ME; Millcreek, UT; and South Salt Lake, UT also use RCV and are holding November 2025 elections, but do not have any races with more than two candidates.
