The Fair Representation Act would implement ranked choice voting for Wyoming’s congressional elections.
It would not change Wyoming’s congressional map because the state would continue to have one congressional seat, elected statewide.
With more voice and more choice, ranked choice voting will give Wyoming voters more power in Congressional elections.
More Competitive Elections
Because winning requires a majority of votes, candidates must compete for broad support from the voters. Healthy competition makes representatives more accountable to voters and creates a greater incentive to champion policies that reflect their constituents’ interests.
A More Expressive Ballot
With ranked choice voting, voters have the option to rank candidates in order of preference: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so forth. Voters are free to express their honest preferences without fear of “spoiler candidates” or “wasted votes”.
