April 2, 2025 – Voters in Skokie, IL voted yesterday to adopt better elections with ranked choice voting (RCV), with 58% in favor. Skokie becomes the third Chicagoland city to adopt ranked choice voting in as many years. Ranked choice voting has now won 32 of its last 33 city ballot measures.

“We did it again!,” said FairVote Illinois, the state’s leading ranked choice voting organization. “That makes Skokie the third city in Illinois to adopt ranked choice voting for their municipal elections. One thing is clear: Illinois voters want better elections! We are now 3 for 3 in RCV municipal campaign wins in just three years’ time, in addition to two advisory referendum wins.”

In 2022, 83% of voters in Evanston, Illinois voted to adopt ranked choice voting for their local elections. In 2024, 80% of voters in Oak Park did the same.

Ranked choice voting has become one of the fastest-growing voting reforms in the nation – growing from 10 cities home to just over two million people in 2016 to 52 cities, counties, and states home to 17 million Americans.
