FairVote Strategy Summit charts how to build, win, and sustain RCV
On April 11-12, FairVote held a strategy summit with 40 participants, including coalition partners, donors, and FairVote staff. The objective was to build on FairVote’s November 2023 Learning Summit, and use the collective intelligence of participants to deepen strategic thinking and stress-test ways to advance ranked choice voting (RCV) during FairVote’s 2025-2028 strategy period.
The summit set new standards in the RCV movement for inclusion, transparency, and trust-building. We invited new partners to join our long-time allies to ensure diverse input and co-create actionable recommendations. Participants represented voices from across political, gender, racial, ethnic, age, and geographic lines.
Over the next month, FairVote will process insights and recommendations from the Strategy Summit to formulate a 2025-2028 strategy proposal for presentation to the Board. We plan to share the strategy at the FairVote Awards on June 3, where we’ll celebrate the critical role our partners play in the RCV movement.
In the meantime, we are excited to share some of the emerging strategic directions from the summit.
For the next four years, FairVote will advance RCV in both single-winner and multi-winner elections, and remain committed to its long-term goal of passing the Fair Representation Act. FairVote will deepen collaboration with its allies to secure and sustain victories for RCV over the long term. Specifically, FairVote and FairVote Action will:
- Prioritize support for the RCV movement across three pillars necessary for lasting election reform: building momentum for RCV in states, priority cities, and party races; winning RCV legislation and ballot measures; and sustaining support for those wins over the long run.
- Lean into their core competencies, including research, communications, tailored advocacy and problem-solving, while coordinating more with national partners to support local leadership.
- Embrace systematic learning approaches to be agile, focused, and accountable. We will operationalize our strategy in a way that allows us to pivot as needed to remain effective in building, winning, and sustaining support for RCV in the face of potential challenges.
We invite you to share your feedback and ideas with us, and to join FairVote and our allies at the FairVote Awards on June 3. Please reach [email protected] for more information about the Awards.
